Default 2005 lr3

Well, I ended up picking up an 05 lr3 se last month for $2400. I couldn’t pass it up. The body was in great shape, some trim pieces falling off (A pillar, and lower door trim). Drove fine, terrain response did not work, no lights, sport mode would not work. The owner mentioned that occasionally he would get a suspension error. Took a drive with my wife to check it out. I knew I was gonna buy it. Ended up getting it for $2400 and drove it 250 miles home with no issues other than what sounded like a rear brake dragging. Pictures to follow

Finally went out and took a few pictures. Little dirty I have a little baseball player to takes over the back. Replaced the A-pillar trim piece and passenger front door trim, cleaned up the headlights. Changed all fluids, Royal purple in transfer case and diffs and Valvoline Maxlife in transmission, also did the transmission filter conversion kit. Fixed the hard shifting between 1st and 2nd and a bunch of messaged by replacing the TCCM ecu. Shifts nice and smooth and feels like new. I used to have an 06' Range Rover sport back in 07' and it feels just as nice if not better shifting. Dash has the normal cracking, so I put a Dashmat in which looks pretty nice. The steering wheel leather is pretty beat up almost looks melted, so I put a steering wheel wrap on it. How hard is it to replace the steering wheel?

I've got visions of what I want to do to this, but the Boss said I need to leave it alone for now. I have 94 Dodge Ram 2500 cummins sitting in the garage that needs to be finished. I got sidetracked on the Land Rovers.

When i picked it up it had a dragging noise in the rear as well as when I set the parking break it started squealing. Figured I'd try to adjust the parking brake. Adjusted it and went to baseball practice. On the way there going about 65 the LR started shuddering. I was like WTH is that! My wife was like "you bought a lemon!" Slowed down and it stopped. We made it to practice and back home without incident. I was like, well the only thing I did was adjust the parking brake. I went ahead and ordered new rotors, pads and shoes for the rear that night knowing in the back of my mind something was up with the rear.
Parts arrived and I tore into the rear. Started with the driver's rear (where the dragging was coming from). Right when I pulled the rotor off this is what I found.

No pins holding the shoes on.

No liner left on any of the shoes and was digging into the rotor.
Got it all replaced, adjusted the parking brake, did a functions check and all is good. Glad the parking brake actuator wasn't dorked up. I don't know that I'd want to replace that thing.

One thing that bugs me about Land Rover is no BlueTooth and the aux port in the rear of the center console. I gotta have my Spotify. Aux adapter with Bluetooth which is powered by the cigarette lighter. Works great, if you're looking for Bluetooth without tearing into the dash and adding an android unit, this is probably the best option out there. The other usb cable is for my son, he tucks it into the seat back pocket.

UPDATE: When I first bought the LR the previous owner said the transmission was going out. He gave me a receipt from a local transmission shop that did some troubleshooting. It had rough shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. Terrain response did not work. Well, I kinda worked backwards and probably could have save a few dollars. the suspension toggle on the center console was missing the cover so that was the first thing I bought was a whole terrain response console piece. After replacing that there was no change. After reading/scouring the boards I think I checked every ground cable to make sure there was no corrosion. I pulled the TCCM, it had no corrosion, looked new, so I cleaned it up and reinstalled it, still no change. I bought a gear shift selector and a accelerator pedal position switch troubleshooting a weird rpm fluctuation. In the end... a new TCCM fixed the majority of the issues.

Now with terrain response working and clean shifting it was time to figure out why I had no sport/manual mode (command shift) whatever you want to call it. I had no error messages on my dash, no obdii codes. The gear selector had a 24/7 lit "D" on the console. I don't think any of the other gears lit up when selected. When I moved the gear selector to "M/S" it would not light up. After researching the forum, I found some mentions of the gearshift selector assy getting moisture and corroding the pins on the wiring connector on the back. Check that out, no corrosion, looked new. I ended up swapping out the gear shift selector anyways and that fixed the issue with the "M/S" lighting up when selected and the 24/7 "D" on the gear selector. Things were looking up, but I still had no manual/sport mode. After searching and searching and reading just about every post I could find. I crawled under the vehicle and unplugged the wiring connector on the transmission to make sure I didn't be a pin replacing it when I did the transmission oil pan conversion. I did replace the sleeve that the wiring bundle connects into. It looked brand new, no corrosion, no bent pins. I fiddled with the wire loom to make sure the insulation on pin 1 was good. I plugged it back in, tightened the retaining ring that hold the connecter in place and wiggled the wires on the back side a little more. Problem fixed. It was a loose wiring connection on pin 1. We'll see how long it lasts before it moves and i lose manual/sport mode.

What I learned was... I had an ecu and pcm in the gear selector assembly that were bad, but showed no signs of corrosion. Even though it shows no corrosion the part can still be your issue. In the end the only extra part I have is the accelerator pedal. Everything else was swapped out. This forum is a great wealth of knowledge. Hopefully my post will help somebody in the future...

Got a small shipment from Lucky8 yesterday, so today I went ahead and installed the Proud Rhino Power panel in the lower center dash. Pretty straight forward. Had to do a little trimming on the dash to get the thing to fit flush. The connectors were pressing up against the dash frame. Works great and looks good.

Finally got around to putting the new shoes on. Stock height. I think it came out super nice. I may play with the suspension settings in the GAP tool, raise it up just a tad.
