Yeah this XD went from barely running & moving to going 70-75MPH so I'm very happy! I have to truly thank my friend Billy up in Austin who tracked me down a mint 96 non Advanced EVAP ECU and matching alarm box. Without it my XD would have been a piece of lawn art.
I guess even my 7 year old daughter was having fun with the XD and her D90 lol. She spent like 10min getting her D90 in just the right spot and she used her own little digital camera (hence why the date is wrong lol).
Took the old gal on a trip into Houston, TX on Friday. I know that sounds like nothing, but this XD was living a life out on a ranch and maybe driving 1 mile at 5-10MPH if that. When I got it the poor thing barely ran & now I can cruise at 70-75MPH with no problems. This was a test run to see how it would do on the 5-6HR drive up to Marble Falls, TX in Oct. I passed a lot newer 2010 & vehicles dead on the side of the road with steam pouring out from under the hood or big old puddles under them. I was running 188-204F the whole trip with the HVAC on high.
Since I've been driving it I did start having an oil pressure light come on only when coming to a stop after driving on the freeway for 15-20 miles. The weird part was it would flicker/come on, but drive thru the light, pull into say walmart, simulate the same situation & no light..... I did replace the oil pressure switch and it was a URO unit.... My brother has a 91 RRC and he also replaced his oil pressure switch a while ago, and when I mentioned the XD's oil light coming on when I exit the freeway and stop at a light he said what brand oil pressure switch do you have? When I said it was a URO unit he said he also got one from a well known LR parts retailer (will not mention who) and that he went from a leaky oil pressure switch to one that flashed/came on when he stopped at a light. He replaced it with another unit from another vendor and the problem went away.. So with that being said I like to be prepared lol. During Labor Day weekend an LKQ type salvage yard was having a 50% off sale. I was able to grab an entire front cover assembly for 10.00! I've cleaned it, inspected it, and it appears to be in excellent shape. I'll order the gasket kit for it, and I'll also order a timing chain while I'm at it. However before I tear open my XD I removed the URO oil pressure switch, and installed what looks like the OEM oil pressure switch off the front cover I just bought. I'll drive it, and see how that does. If I still get a flashing light then I'll replace the front cover and go from there.
I also ordered a set of cheap 235/85R16 MT's for 485.00 shipped to my door. They are of coarse no name tires, but with this mainly being a trail truck I don't care.
Oh I'll post pics no doubt! It's currently running 245/75R16's and yes on an old LR the tall/skinny look = looks excellent. Everyone was telling me 265/75R16, but the 245's already rubbed at full lock and I'd rather not loose turning radius to big old fat tires. The Thailand made MT's only cost 475.00 for all 4 shipped and since it's not driven daily I figured they'll be fine (especially vs the bald/cracked no names on it right now).
Besides the silly name I am impressed with these cheap $475.00 M/T tires from Thailand. They took very little weights to balance, and the sidewall and rim protector are nicely done. When I took the pic's I laughed when I saw the LF headlight metal piece floating around inside the light assembly. When I took it to Houston last weekend there was a lovely massive hole on I-10 near 610 and it was pretty violent. If that's all that fell off with old yellers rusty body I'm impressed lol.
Also good news so far on the oil light flickering BS when coming to a stop. Since switching to the OEM oil pressure switch that came on my 10.00 front timing cover the light has not come back on. Note to self DO NOT trust a URO oil pressure switch. If it does come on again I have all the gaskets to slap my spare front timing cover on. SS Brake lines should either be here today or early next week.
P.S. Texas also really really needs to work on their license plate letteringl. This is the 3rd plate I've got over the years that makes me think of bad things or phrases when I see the first 3 letters!
Free skid plate! Thing is galvanized & extremely stout! Just had to buy new bolts for the rear mounts vs the crappy all thread it had on it previously.
