So I finally had some time to mess with this it has been sitting on a battery tender for months.
I did an oil change and looked her over a bit more and was pretty happy with what I found. Everything under the hood seems happy aside from a bit of lifter tick. Ran it for an hour keeping an eye on temps etc. All seems well.
I stopped at the shop to drop off a couple things and my daughter was with me. She spent 45 minutes checking out the D1. She decided it was very retro cool and she liked it. She turned 15 a couple months ago and I thought for sure she was going to take the 07 LR3 for her first car. Instead she came to the shop with me today and spent 2 hours bouncing around the property in the D1.
She then proclaimed she didn't want the LR3 and the D1 would do nicely.
So we made a list of all the things that needed doing.
She started removing lights as they look "Sketch" to her and decided she wanted to keep that rack. Then she asked if we could get some better lights for the rack... I like where this is heading. So this will be a pretty basic build and a cool first car.
Tomorrow she gets a surprise I found today.

I thought my XD had lifter tick until I discovered my entire bank 2 rocker assembly = only had 1 good rocker left. All the ticking and noise was from all the cups being loose inside the rockers. Had a spare with good rockers, cleaned it up, installed it, and she's silent again. My oldest daughter is the same way! She absolutely loves a D1/D2 and she swears that is what she wants as her first car. Have fun working on that together. I spent 350.00 this week and bought back an 03 D2 I sold many many years ago. It's got blown HG's now but the rest of it is pretty decent with a title for 350.00 I couldn't pass it up.

So a couple days ago I was driving out of my neighborhood and I glanced right as I was passing the neighbor 3 houses down and spotted a brush guard that looked oddly familiar leaned up against the trash can in his driveway.
Next day I saw him grabbing his mail as I was rolling past so I stopped and asked if it was for a Disco? He said it was off his sons 97 Disco. I asked if he was selling, he said no he was planning on cutting it up so it would fit in the bin. So we struck a deal for beer.
Stopped back by an hour later with an armload of beer and walked back with this. Was shocked it had the Genuine Rover lights. Need a new lens and trim but everything else looks pretty good.

Thanks she thought so to.
So she decided it needed a good wash.
Once it was all cleaned we pulled it in and test fitted another surprise I had laying around
Old Land Rover 110 steelies, she really liked the look of it. The Firestone Destination AT, that came with the truck will get moved over to the 110 rims after sand blasting and refreshing.
After that it was time for the crusty Hella's to come off the front bumper.
Then a pizza break for lunch
Than it was time for the main event installing the trash can brush guard.
