Default Black on black, bedliner body and spray-on vinyl rims

Bedliner used: Herculiner (1.5 gallons), two coats. Roll-on. Each gallon was about $77. If I had to do it over again, I'd find a way to purchase additional rollers; the kit only comes with two. I used the first roller on the roof and left the bottom portion of the Disco the factory color for a couple of months while I was deciding whether or not I wanted to coat the entire vehicle, which I obviously decided to do. This left me with only one roller to coat the remainder of the vehicle. Towards the middle of the first coat of the bottom portion of the vehicle, the roller began to disintegrate. I purchased another gallon of Herculiner at my local Lowe's store, which came with another two rollers. I used rollers for large areas and used paint brushes for areas the roller wasn't able to fit very well. It's really simple- you just apply the bedliner in a dabbing motion, which resulted in basically the same texture as the roller.

Prior to applying the bedliner, I scuffed the paint by hand with sand paper. I washed it with soap and water, and then did a final wipedown with acetone. The bedliner, spray-on vinyl, and miscellaneous supplies cost roughly $300. Some supplies I found helpful were rags, plastic drop down cloths, paint brushes, paint pans, a hobby knife (razor), masking tape, and masking paper.

On a semi-unrelated note, I also refurbished the headlamps. I wet sanded them down with a kit I purchased on Amazon, followed by a buffing, also with a kit I purchased on Amazon.

As you can tell, I cut the middle portion of the plastic bumper cover out. I used a metal blade attachment on the end of a drill. The bumper cover was broken due to the many repairs I've performed, during which I had to stand on the bumper cover. At some point, I'll get a new bumper but until now I just bedlined the steel part behind the plastic bumper cover. IMO, it doesn't look too bad.

This is the Atlantic British bumper I purchased on Amazon for about $490. The OEM rear bumper cover was broken and looked terrible. This steel bumper was actually pretty easy to install by myself.

I am aware the bedliner may fade or flatten with time. I plan to either coat the bedliner with spray-on vinyl or attempt to rehabilitate the appearance with conditioning product like this:

I may even apply more coats of bedliner on the original coating. There are many options.

As for the black being hot, it really doesn't matter what color the vehicle is when the ambient temperature is known to reach 115 degrees during the daytime in the summer. Your car is going to be hot AF, no matter the exterior color. I work at night anyway, and have a "company" vehicle that I use to travel to and from work in. It's not unheard of for me to have the Disco parked for a month. I would, however, like to get the Disco lifted with off-road tires so I can start using it on trails for fun with the family. I'm really not too concerned with how warm its interior gets.

Spray-on vinyl used for rims: Rust-Oleum Vinyl Wrap, gloss black

I had an old coat of spray-on vinyl on my rims that needed to be removed and replaced. I sprayed the rims with WD-40 and let it set for a bit, then was able to scrape the old vinyl off. This method worked but was laborious. I bought Dip Dissolver and borrowed my neighbor's pressure washer, which was a much faster method, albeit wetter. I probably could have used the pressure washer after the WD-40 with similar results as the Dip Dissolver, but I didn't know my neighbor had a pressure washer at that time so I didn't try it.

Once the vinyl was removed, I cleaned the inner rim with a combination of steel wool, sand paper, wire wheel attachment for a drill, acetone, and soapy water. Once the years of caked-on brake dust was most removed, I did a final wipe down with acetone. I flipped the wheel upside down on a drop down cloth and used Ace Hardware brand Premium Paint + Primer, flat black enamel. I didn't mask anything- there was really no need to. I didn't paint the inner bead and I didn't really care if it was a perfect line, since it's on the inside and is not visible when in regular use. I used about 3/4 of a can per rim. Once the rim was sufficiently dry, I installed the rim and coated the outer area with about 3/4 of a can of Rust-Oleum gloss black spray-on vinyl. I would have preferred to coat the rim with it off of the vehicle, however I did not have black lug nuts and would have damaged the vinyl during the lug-nut tightening process. My plan is to get black lug-nuts, remove the rims and apply another few coats of spray-on vinyl. The spokes that were on the bottom were not sprayed evenly and are a bit spotty. It's not really that noticeable, but I prefer to have a nice even coat.

The vinyl overspray on the tire comes off really easily. You can peel it off with your fingers or scrape it off with a soft bristle brush.

Why? I've never seen a bed lined truck that didn't look terrible in a year.

It does. I rarely drive it and plan to use it as an off road toy. Lift and tires are coming soon.
