Default Front bumper for Discovery 1

I’m p

new D1 could go with stock bumper or

could add more of a shelf to the tubular below to accommodate a winch so I don’t have to cut the grill on the D1

Optional tubular bumper
icking up a new to me D1 tomorrow. The guy has a couple of front bumpers: stock one that goes to the black D1 I’m buying and a tubular one. I’m having a hard time finding many discos with this bumper. It seems more of a Defender bumper. Also found a video of a similar one with more of a shelf for a winch.

So should I go stock or tubular and have it fabricated to fit the winch so the grill doesn’t require cutting?

Or find a different front bumper altogether?

Also the guy has several D1’s including and an XD wit original low profile roof rack etc.. however the black D1 has best engine etc...

That is a masai 4x4 defender winch bumper. I would check to see what backyard fab has been done to make it work with the Discovery frame mounts

I had the Garvin Ind. Wilderness rack on my first D1 (the one in your photo). Fabricated a steel floor for it and used to tailgate on top. It was a solid rack. I don’t think they have made them for LR in years.

This is the XD the guy has. and the rack from the XD is on the blue rover.

The rack is a low profile. requires removing the roof racks if used on a rover with them. I can get all three rovers and use the blue one as a donor, but do not really have the area to store them currently.

Sad to see a collector's item truck like that. If it was near me I would be tempted to save it

Do you think it would not look right on a disco?

Also speaking of defenders I found a defender headlight conversion for discoverys that kinda looks cool.

Do you know if that rack will fit in a D2?

Wether it looks right or not is up to you. What I mean is the frame mounts are drastically different between the 2 trucks. So some reworking was done just make sure it’s not held on with a couple spot welds and happy thoughts if you intend to winch with it

So I looked at the bumper yesterday and it looked very clean and made to fit, so if it was altered someone did a great job.

I ended up not going with the D1 I drove there for, it requires some major work. The other two were not drivable either. If someone didn’t mind putting in some time they could get 1-2 good rovers out of the lot, although they may have to source at least one engine.

I’m going with a stock minty ‘04 SE7 for a little more until a nice D1 comes along that a i can’t pass on or a Defender.
