I have an agenda for sure but gonna keep it to myself. Every time I plan a trip something stupid terrible happens. Just gonna take things one step at time and hope for the best.

 

Brilliant. That sounds much much easier than walking in to literally any auto parts, hardware, Walmart, service garage, or gas station and using the green stuff.
Just think of all the cool stories you'll hear from locals as you wait for your coolant to ship to bumblef*ck.

 

And how often are you changing out your coolant/antifreeze anyways? Once a month? 😅 Jeeeeze

I figure Ill probably change my coolant out once a year, 2 at the most; plus I still have half a gallon of the mixed formula and another unopened gallon of the full strength (1 gallon of full strengh = 2 gallons of diluted formula) so in an emergency I can always pick up some $0.50 gallon of distilled water. So really its not big deal and I dont expect to need to buy any more coolant for a couple years 😆

 

LOL. No one ever plans on having a breakdown. What happens when you bust a hose, expansion tank, Tstat in the middle of nowhere? You'll either end up waiting for the fancy stuff to be next day aired to you, or the local mechanic will tell you the red stuff is garbage and will flush and refill with good old green and have you back on the road the same day.

 

You worry to much and missed my last post, but hey check this product out. Its super cheap, easy to find at most retail and grocery stores nationwide and can be used in our cooling system in emergencies:

 

So the girl is finally out of the shop. I found a decent place to park it while I continue pulling everything I need. Had to dish out $260 but that buys me 3 months and access to an outlet for my power tools as well as an engine hoist. Ill be doing the work myself. This will be a learning experience for me.

Today I started working on the parts truck, prepping the engine for removal. I plan on keeping engine, transmission, transfer case, PS gearbox and possible the rear axle. Long term goal is to tear down the Turner engine and figure out what went wrong, why oil pressure was lost and why the misfires. Once thats sorted I will be rebuilding the engine and getting all the covers, brackets and upper intake sand blasted and powder coated. Ill be ditching the cylinder heads and sourcing new replacements or remanufactured heads. The transmission will eventually be rebuilt by a Transmission specialist and saved as a spare for my daily driver. The rear axle will be mated to a m416 military trailer that I plan on building in near future. But for now Im just pulling everything as a unit and getting it ready for transport.

This will be a weekend only project as my scedule during the week is hectic and its a 25 minute drive each way. Started on the top end. So far I have most of the wires and sensors disconnected, unbolted exhaust manifolds, removed the a/c compressor, unbolted the ps gearbox and disconnected ps hoses and line. Tranny fluid is drained. Next gotta disconnect the steering arm from the ps gearbox, pull the brake booster and master cylinder, drain transfer case and figure out how to disconnect engine wiring harness. Once all thats done Ill start unbolted everything below. My goal is to pull the engine, transmission and transfer case out as one unit.

Cut the engine harness, you probably won't be reusinh it anyway. Keep all the connectors though.
Cut the supports and grill out of the way to help pull the engine.

 

Thanks for the tips. What exactly did you use to cut the grill and supports? Did you end up removing the electric fan and all that ****?

Another fun day at the barn 😆
Finished pulling out all the parts Im keeping from the engine bay (Brake booster/mc, ps gearbox and some hoses, manifolds etc). Had to buy a special star shaped socket for the steering arm bolt. Tried removing the transfer case crossmember bolts but of course they were seized on and the exhaust bolts broke so I said **** it and used a angle grinder with a metal cutting disk to cut out the y-pipe and the crossmember. Next I unbolted the rear drive shaft and cut the transmission intercooler lines. I think everything up top is done except the harness. From what I could tell there are only 4 mounts. 2 up front for the engine and 2 at the transfer case. Am I missing something? And should what can I expect to happen when I remove the bolts for the mounts? I half expect to get crushed by the transmission...
