Can you gut the old thermostat and install it?

Hmmm.. I think I get flow to the rad though

I don't think air bubbles would account for running 30 degrees too hot

You think?

hot coolant will still get to the rad, but the coolant coming out of the radiator won't flow past the thermostat.

There is an easy way to see if the T-Stat is stuck

Plug in your code reader or if you have ultra gauge and do the following:

1. Let truck idle for 10 minutes with heater turned off or till temp levels out and note the coolant temp
2. Run the RPMs up to 3k and hold
3. If temp starts to drop, T Stat has opened. If temp does not decrease or increases, T Stat is stuck closed

Also, unclear as to why you have not bypassed the heater core, that is $8 bucks to figure out if it is the issue or not.

Right, i'll try the UG method tomorrow but.. the temps never really level out. They just keep climbing while idling

As mentioned above, I had successfully blown water / coolant through the heater core by.. blowing on the hoses. Coolant came out, no sludge or anything. Did it on both sides.

no offense...I flushed my system and thought heater core was good due to steady stream of water from both sides only to find out it was actually clogged and the water I was seeing was being pushed through 50% of the fins.

Well.. Got a 90 degree elbow from HD yesterday so going to bypass this silly heater core based on Friday Nights Disco's suggestion..

AND looks like i'll have to put it to the test.. Its pouring outside right now (550AM) and I have to get to school.. Not walking 1.5 miles in this sh-t so gonna have to drive ol' MagPie.

Plenty o parking lots to park in if it overheats in this 1.5 mile trek, so should be ok.
