Operation Magpie.
I have some cool stuff in the works.. Finally transitioned into the metal shop at EarthRoamer, so lots of little tig projects that have been in the back of my head can come to fruition!
MagPie seems to be doing ok these days, its been hot as ***** in Denver lately. Just waiting on some parts for the Gti so i can get that sorted for daily use which means i can work on MagPie at a slower pace and not be screwed out of a car if something happens.
161k and going strong!
Also, i've noticed a few LR's on CL locally that are ridiculously over priced. Like.. $15-25k asking price. Just nuts.

Did valve gaskets last weekend, ugh not really a fun job. Mainly had issues with the lead ends on spark plug wires pull off when removing them which was mildly annoying. It was hot as ***** out to boot.

I was pleased at how clean it was under the covers.. Been 40k'ish since i was in there last time. Drivers side was easy, passenger was the time suck. I'm hoping that an LS will get in the bay before i have to do those gaskets again
Didn't take any other pics, but i did clean up the covers before putting them in.
Single row bar light came in along with a few of the 4" LED lights as well as a BlueSea fuse block -- all from Amazon for less than $150. Just need to wire up all the OEM switches that are already in place. Ripped out the cruise control setup (it never worked) so i can make space for the fuse block.
Ran over a lawn spike which caused a flat, ugh have to patch yet another tire.

Looks pretty darn nice inside. Yeah, this summer has been a real stalemate for any extra work on the rover. Wife's Dll started running rough, couple misfire codes...it was all l could do was to pull it in the garage and open the hood...lol. Better temps by the end of the week here.
l believe l'm going to go after the coil pack, since it's 1 and 6 misfires and tgey are on the same coil pack. I'll do the plugs too, since it's about time.

Added bonus...driving down the road yesterday...see the zero-turn sitting in the front yard right by the road...so...either my wife is selling it or it's broke down. Yeah, it's the one that involves me fixing it. I'm like...is it really too much to ask that it breaks down under the shade of a tree branch, really?
For reals.
Vw is officially on the road tomorrow, so hoping to start doing the ball joints this coming weekend.. Ugh its bad. Front drive shaft also gave up, so either gotta send it back to the local place it was produced to get refurbished or buy a new one -- either way, probably the same price.
Oddly enough, havent notice and sort of MPG difference in 2wd vs 4wd

Congrat's on your move into the metal shop at Earthroamer, I did some work for Global X a few years ago......Bunch of
jack asses altered my fabrication and it failed.....'their' alteration & welding 'failed'....they're lucky no one got killed. Any
whoo....ended up working directly with the customer. Treat every weld as if there's a family of 6 driving behind it!!

Ooof thats no good. We have a serious QA program at ER -- several thousand points to be checked / verified before we roll one out to a customer.

Installed a new brake master yesterday, 4 bolts easy peasy. Flushed out all the old fluid but stupidly filled the system with Dot 3 rather than Dot 4 -- had to go get more fluid to bleed! The old fluid was a honey color so it definitely needed to be changed.
Built a platform for my bluesea fuse block and 4 relays, I'll hopefully get that in in the coming weeks to be used for future lighting equipment.
