I've looked at a low mileage '84 model for running around town and doing a little off road.
What sort of things should I ask about and given that this is a very simple car, how hard will it be to keep it running?

 

Thomas welcome to the forum. To answer a few of your questions we will need a bit of information about the D90 you are looking at.

They are a simple and fairly robust vehicle. You need to check it for rust on the bulkhead, frame, out-riggers and rear crossmember. Rot in those areas are reason to pause and really consider looking at another vehicle.

Rust is fixable of course but it can be extremely costly and time consuming.

The answer for keeping it running we will need to know what motor it has.

They are great trucks as long as you are not looking for creature comforts.

 

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, this one is definitely spartan. The original green has been sprayed with a grey vinyl like bed liner all over. Textured finish doesn't leave fingerprints; like a refrigerator.

It has the 2.5 diesel. Looks like a tractor engine.

 

The 2.5 diesel non-turbo is a pretty reliable motor. Not powerful or quick but reliable.

Not a fan of the rhino lined body but that is in the eye of the beholder I guess.

 

Okay. I'll see about getting it checked out for rust. Seems too good to be true. Perhaps, RHD is a turn off to some people

 

I love my right hand drive 110, if you have a young child its even better if you let them ride in the front passenger seat

I wouldn't be to worried about the mileage on it. In 5 minutes or less I could swap my speedo/odo out on my 110 for a much lower mileage one off ebay.

 

Wasn't meant to be. Don't sweat it. They come up from time to time, usually for more though. I would look at a few anyway and drive them just to make sure it's what you want. Had it in me that I needed to have a certain vehicle not that long ago. After test driving a couple, I became less impressed. ....Keep your eye out for a LHD one. For that kind of money, you could get a H3 which is a lot more comfortable, safer, and probably dependable. But it's not a Land Rover ...might not be for you ..
