Default 97 NAS D90 Odometer

My odometer quit somewhere around 270K miles. Been driving it for a few years without. Now I have a new job that I need to track mileage closer than my 14 MPG estimate. A website said it was the ribbon cable on the speedometer shorting out. I don't have a ribbon cable, just wires into the connector. Any advice/help?

There was a place, Hollywood Speedometers that fixed them. Don't know if they are still about. I think the connection issues was with the membrane connection to the circuit board. I saw where some folks had limited success pressing it more firmly against it. There are replacements available for the Speedo, but they look a little different in the fonts used.
