Default Avoiding drill holes

Hi! I will get my “new” Defender in a few weeks, after it has been completely refurbished. As I need sand plates (Maxtrax,…) and don’t want to mount airlines, I have following question. Is it possible to fasten the rails vertically from the roof platform downwards and to attach them in the groove shown in the photo? Sorry, I really have no idea as this will be my first Defender. I really want to avoid drilling unnecessary holes into my baby….

Thanks!

Are you asking if the lip of your side wall is usable for securing a bracket, you would have to loosen the bolts that secure wall to tub. It's always a battle securing item to defender, since the sidewall and tub are single wall in must areas...and aluminum. Do you have a spare tire on the rear door, might be a better options, mounting to spare. Or add a roof rack.

I’m with him on this mount them on the spare tire or roof rack if you have one.

thanks a lot for your support/ comments! I have a spare tire and could mount them there, but I also found another option, see attached. I could glue the lower part of the brackets onto my Landy without drilling any hole. But glueing is also something that must be well considered, so I need to think about it, spare tire or glue ☺️ Thanks!!!

p.s.: my garage is 2,1 and there are only 3 cm left between the ceiling, so unfortunately nothing can be mounted on top permanently

Using glue will likely see the paint damaged when you clip that traction mat on a tree and it pulls free
