Hi, I own this 1996 Land Rover 110 and I am trying to diagnose the source cause of a clunk sound I get about 1 second after I shift into every manual gear (both high and Low mode). It also clunks when I put the gas on or release the gas. I paid $270 to have a shop diagnose it (they specialize in Land Rovers). They thought it was the transmission until I showed them the video of the front axle side of the propeller shaft making a clunk when I popped the clutch but where the newly installed U joint did not move a bit. After that video, they were at a loss. The clunk can be heard from both the front axle and transfer case sides of the prop shaft. Please view 10 second video.
If it helps. There is clearly some play in the drive train. When I jack the axle up on the front passenger side and turn the wheel, it moves 2 1/2 inches before it engages and makes the prop shaft turn. Your thoughts would be much appreciated. 72K. Play somewhere in the drivetrain.
The link below demonstrate the clunking sound that happens whenever I change gears due to play somewhere in the drivetrain.
