Default Downpipe gasket or just sealant?

I was getting a headache while on a long drive the other day and ended up finding a healthy leak in the joint between the turbo and the downpipe (and every other joint down the line). I took off the downpipe and there is no gasket, just sealant, but part# ESR3260 looks like it should be fitted. In the repair manual it vaguely states put gasket or sealant in. Any recommendations? Thanks!

IMO if there is an appropriate gasket per the parts manual I would go with the gasket
