i dont really think that Defender have really some problem areas. They are usually put through hell by their owners so that is where all that comes from. If the car drives fine, doesnt leak too much (look under car when you arrive), then look if there are not some half completed repairs (crashes, bad tunings) and everything else should not be hard (expensive) to fix. Plan not to spend everything, it is always better have some 1/4 of price as reserve and make it car you trust (preemptive repairs). That is true for all (used) cars.

so got to take her out for a spin today
little rough here and there but the ride was far better than I thought
however I know these are not speed machines however I was surprised how slow it was to get going....that being said the speedometer was not working.....so I have no idea how fast I was going until I had my iphone out with a speed app on....what is the normal driving (highway) speed for 90's?
Some of the searches I found were saying they could run 65 mph no problem is this correct?!!
It was hard to tell how hard I was pushing it since it had no tachometer!!! Now that was something I was not suspecting

i will say it so, once i have TD4 i would not go to TD5 (one of many reasons is actually the better "feel" of higher speeds). 120-140km/h is in TD4 very nice (i have removed speed limiter). In TD5 i would travel 110-120km/h. Here in Germany it is not problem. Most of the time on highways i am still overtaking lot of cars and truck. Now is germany anyway stuffed neck up with speed radars, even on highways.
