So I'm brand new to the community but very interested. I've always been drawn to the early model sII but really have no idea what I'm looking for in a good purchase besides the basic mechanics. Now I'm here in the Middle East and I am seeing quite a few late 60's early 70's on the road and they have my attention. Anyone willing to take a rookie to school for a minute would be much appreciated. Looks like the average price is around the $7000 usd mark, which seems pretty good.
I also have an eye on a few late 80's defenders, both 2 and 4 door selling for similar money.Again though I don't really know a lot so what the heck. Also keeping in mind I would have to spend an extra $5k to get it home, I want to make sure the investment is at least sound. Here is a link to two I recently found. Just sold for $6700. Hey !!! i may not be able to tell you much about the prices there ( because our exchange rate is way different ) but i could tell you what to look for in a good defender , the red looks good from here , but they all look good on the outside , but its the underneath and engine , you have to look at , especially at the back cross member area , for rust and rot , look below and make sure the chassis is solid ,the arms off the chassis , the front floor area , and between the body and chassis as much as you can see..

look for fluid leaks as well .. if any... you can use for negotiation purposes...
