Default Where is the reverse light switch located on 2003 300td1 d90

I own a 2003 D90 300TDI commercial. The reverse light has stopped working. The fuse controlling it is Ok. My next area of testing is the switch itself, but even though I removed the cubby box and the flood cover below it I cant seem to locate the switch anywhere. There is immediately a protruding wire connector with three wires staring up at me just infront of the hand brake drum. Removing it and running an ohmeter check revealed it's connected to fuse #11, which, according to the owners manual is related to the antilock breaking system. Though, as far as it looks there is none fitted. Searching a bit further on top, right (viewing the vihicle from the rear) reveals another switch which from tests, is the diff. lock indicator light. Where then is the reverse light switch? The gearbox appears to be R380. Could someone familiar with the vihicle I've described please help? I live in the caribbean and need to to have it checked (MOT) as soon as possible. Please, someone, anyone.

Is there a switch on the side of the transmission operated by the selector?

Reverse switch is located on the gear box. Take out the centre floor pannel and you will see it on the left hand side, as you are looking down. It unscrews. Some times they fill with dirt and crud and after cleaning they can work again. if you have the R380 grear box then the part number is CDU51L

Hi G. reeves,

Thanks for the reply. I sse it now. It was hidden by cabling etc. I tried taking it out but realize the gear box must first be dropped. Shame on Land Rover. Thanks again

I have never had to take the gearbox out to do the reverse switch. you will need a mirror to properly identify the switch and a 19mm spanner. If the switch has worn down then you can remove the washer and place it back in and this can also make it work again. I think that they say to tighten it to 24nm but with not being able to get a socket on then use your judgment.
