One of our Disco's (95) needs a new transfer case.

I took it to a local independent transmission shop, because the truck was making a nasty noise when in gear. They said that the transfer case was completely trashed.... and they can put in a used one for $1500 all in.

does this sound right?

Used cases $200 - $350, depending on source, perhaps more. Does seem a little pricey, might get another quote.

If it is just a used one, not even rebuilt, he is getting way over $1000 for his efforts to remove and replace.

What kind of warranty?

I would definitely look at other places, price a used one myself. Also they are several forum members and Rover Clubs out there, I would be looking them up.

Do you know how big a Fix the Rover Fire with lots of Good Meat, Strong Drink, Loud Music and the rest of the fixings you can build with $1500?

As a point of reference, Land Rover book time to R&R a transfer box is slightly under 6 hours.
The biggest thing that might add to it is that you have to drop the 'Y' pipe and if a manifold to pipe stud breaks....
