[HELP] Center Differential Lock
#61
I don't exactly understand how the shifter activates the CDL.
I see the linkage and it has 3 connections:
1) Top of the linkage with the eye hole connected to the shifter
2) The middle connection to that metal piece that is screwed in
(This is the pivot point from what I can tell)
3) Bottom of the linkage connected to the activator yoke thing by that C-Link
So in order for the activator yoke to engage the CDL the yoke has to turn clockwise (to the right if you sit in the car and look down)
So the yoke turns right which means the bottom of the linkage is also going right but the top is pulled to the left. But How? When I move my shifter left and right that top connection stays the same and does not move.
This is the top part where the linkage connects to the shifter. It does not move but the splines come in and out.
When I shift to the left is this pin supposed to come out?
When the lever is all the way to the right how flush is the spline supposed to be with the base part of the shifter? And is the o-ring supposed to be on the spline or inbetween the spline and base?

Ahhhh so that rod that the spline sits on top of DOES move. That's what I thought!
Mine does not.. freak! Only the spline moves on mine. Do you think that clamp holds the spline in place then when you shift from left to right it moves the rod?

That spline should be pretty much all the way out of the housing when you put the clamp back on it.

Looks like some good progress at least.
I would spray down what is left of the linkage in the vehicle to get it working as well as possible and hook it all back up.
Then see if the dash light comes on or not. It should come on basically as soon as you get the shifter all the way to the left since the only thing that happens is the plunger goes iun and applies the ground to the light circuit. If light is not working or takes a long time to come on or go off, the switch is not working properly.
I sat in my driveway for a couple of minutes today before I pulled out and cycled mined from unlocked to locked and back. I still moves very smoothly, light comes on as soon as the shifter is moved to the left. It comes to rest under the Snowflake button on the AC. I push it to the right, light goes off, lever comes to rest under the Fan Switch. Works the same whether it is in Park, R, N, D,3,2,or 1. As it should.
I may have to upgrade to Samual Adams on this one.
