Ah, the inch or so is all it has to move to lock the diff. I dont know what the total travel is.

Spike shows us what it looks like when in the vehicle... I can't quite decide if yours is moving far enough, but I'm leaning toward no. It doesn't look like it is going far enough to the left.

It appears he has broken the pin that connects the shifter to the top of the verticle lever.

Yeah it definitely does not shift all the way to the left like it is supposed to.

Can the rod move "freely" through the hole in the middle of the spline piece? IIRC it should be able to.

No, I soaked it overnight in the rustoleum and I'll make another video later (it's still in there). If I can't figure it out I'll purchase another shifter.

Just keep PB blastering the shaft/hole and trying to tap it loose.

Yours isnt nearly as bad as mine looked. My linkage was so rusty I couldnt disconnect it cause the pins were stuck. It looked like the shaft and spline were rusted together.

I would move yours into position where the spine is out of the box (i.e. how it is before you remove the clamp), and do a repeating process of PB and tapping/finagling.

I just went out and looked at mine. In the unlock position it sits under the fan switch for the AC/Heat with that switch in the lowest position.

With it in the locked position, it is pretty much directly under the little snow flake AC button. With a taper measure that's a little over 3 inches of travel.

I said it was around 4 inches up to 6 inches of travel for the top of the shifter which was a wild guess. It basically moves about as far as the rubber folds are at the top of the gaiter.

What is apparent from what he found if that someone had been in there and attempted a fix but abandoned their efforts and left it disconnected and hanging.
