Default '04 Disco vs '06 LX470

Curious about the comparison here. I hear a lot about Land Rovers not being reliable, and a lot about how reliable the LX470 is, but I haven't spoken to actual owners. Looking to buy an '04 Disco or an '06-'08 LX470. I would much prefer a Land Rover bc they're a lot cheaper, but I'm guessing that's because they are going to need a ton of maintenance soon. Has anyone here put a ton of miles on one without many issues? Give me a solid comparison if anyone has owned both.

I've got an 02 D2 with 235K on the original engine. Runs excellent!

You say "original engine" like I should expect to change the engine before I got 235k 😩

Just curious, why did you post in the Disco 1 forum?

I don't know much about the models. I thought it was the Disco 1.

It's a British vehicle not a Japanese vehicle so unless it was well cared for all these years = yes it could certainly be on another engine.

If you aren't mechanically inclined or don't like tinkering under the hood = British vehicles aren't for you.

Is this your daily driver or a secondary toy. If it’s a daily driver, get the LX. If it’s a second vehicle , get the Discovery. The Discovery looks cool and performs excellent off road. The LX470 looks good and performs great off road. A lot certainly depends on previous owner maintenance and condition of the vehicle (think rust). Many will disagree with me here but when comparing the two side by side the LX is far more reliable and functional for a primary vehicle. The 4.7 V8 they have is bulletproof and the interior comfort is amazing. Interior fit and finish is better. They can also be serviced at a local dealer easily or most any trusted shop and won’t cost a kidney since it is essentially just a fancy Land Cruiser.

considering Im getting ready to move from my Disco to either a LX470 or the GX470 - yeah you got my vote, no question. Ive had a toyota truck, a Jeep and my disco - Im goin back to toyota. Its not just maintenance (though thats is a big factor) its the availability of parts and availability of repair. If I broke down in the middle of nowhere with my disco - I think I would be hard pressed to not loose my a$$ on where ever I took it and if they could even get the part.

I never have had issues getting LR parts. A lot of parts cross reference to GM, or cheaper alternate P/N’s for other vehicles.
