1000mi drive
#5
I commute with my 98 185 miles per day 5 Days per week, and drive it up to northern New Hampshire every other weekend, which is good for another six or seven hundred miles. no problem. Other than the gas of course, which is spectacular. make sure your tune up stuff is up to date, oil change fresh, alignment is true, and have an awesome trip

Depending on who is along for the ride, a plug in inverter and a plug strip to share the outlets can keep lots of entertainment electronics fired up.
There was that member with an LR3 driving from California that had a recently serviced differential drain plug fall out somewhere in Montana.....

Not sure what shape your rig is in, but if in doubt:
- Replacement radiator plug
- serpentine belt
- brake light switch
- extra oil
- extra coolant
- jumper cables
- good spare tire
- toolbox with some asst nuts and bolts
- AAA premier card(100 mile towing)
- gas card
I drive 500 miles a week for work with a high mileage disco and no problems(except ones associated with the above list)
Good luck

Tomorrow head to Lowes or Home Depot and they will have sets on sale for big discount. One the size of a big briefcase.
As for all the extra fluids, that is if you don't trust your vehicle or are off road or in very isolated areas. Recall that when you read the owners manual that it says check the oil every 250 miles. So while doing underhood check at each fuel stop check other fluids as well, like the ATF that is used for power steering fluid. Most places that sell fuel sell the other fluids.
I keep a plastic tub in the back of my 97 with a few items and jumper cables, ****** strap, etc.
By the time the factory gauge tells you that overheating has started 1 gallon of coolant or water won't be enough. By the time the oil light comes on one quart won't be enough.
State Farm and some other insurance companies also offer towing coverage and roadside help for very modest monthly fees.
An Ultra Gauge is a handy item for keeping an eye on coolant temp and battery volts.
Load the RAVE on smart phone or USB drive and you are ready for the road and idle time at the office.
