1989 k5 blazer w/350 vs 1998 discovery 50th anniv.
Alright guys im between a rock and a hard place (luckily im 4x4 so i can get out).
I have been offered a 1989 k5 blazer for my 1998 land rover discovery 50th anniversary edition. Im thinking about this trade or just all out buying his k5, it is really nice.
My question is would any of you make the trade if you had an extra rover already and what is this k5 blazers' value.
My disco looks about as mint as one can be nowadays, brand new hunter green paint, hood black out kit, safari rack, bushguard, tail light covers, rear step and a 3 inch lift. She is rolling on 265/70s tires. My rover has 160,000 miles on it. Automatic tranny.
The 1989 k5 blazer looks to be an 8 out of 10 as far as looks, black and red new paint. The inside looks good for the year and its lifted im not sure how high maybe 6 inches of lift. The thing is it has a brand new gm crate v8 350 with brand new auto tranny. I was there when my friend had the dealer put it in. So i know its new. The motor has exactly 865 miles on it
So with there being less than 1000 miles on drivetrain of the k5, How much is an estimated value of the truck.
I may keep my disco and start haggling him on price..............He hasnt thrown a price out yet

Your on a Disco forum so the responses will be lop sided. The blazer does sound like it could be fun to modify if your bored with the Disco. I have no clue on value, why is he selling it after so much work?
Im not sure if you are familiar with the bp oil spill or not. But We both live on the beach in south mississippi, well bp gave out tons of money to use the local people boats as clean up crew boats. well long story short he had 3 fleet skiffs so he made about 100,000 dollars in about 3 months. So he did no work he paid to have it done with his "free "money. the bp oil spill was a publicity stunt btw, no issues down here. I worked on one of those boats for 3 months rackin in the bp oil check and didnt even see the first bit of oil anywhere.......damn news media, bad for the moral of the usa, but great for the pocket books of south mississippi. Now Hurricane Katrina different story i lost my entire house down to the slab, that was a dooosy
Take the Blazer. Disco is getting to the age where increasing number of things happen that cost more and more money. Small parts that break on the Blazer, interior trim, etc., far more common in junkyards. 50th anniv edition is nice, but deep down inside it is still a Rover, high capability, high maintenance, high repair cost. Pretty soon dealers won't even know how to work on the older ones.
You'll be able to spend more time having fun, compared to another weekend wrenching on the Rover. And isn't that why you got a 4WD to start with?
Escape while you can. The rest of us are doomed to enslavement under the tender mercies of the green oval.
But not for an offspring operated vehicle - no air bags I suspect.

The K5 Blazer is truly "BAD TO THE BONE", one of the best 4X4's of all the American built ones. And a brand new crate 350 and new tranny, I would give him the Disco in a big hurry or like you said, keep it and buy the Blazer.
The 350 is one of the biggest produced motors ever made, is still being produced and will always be in good supply due to all the various vehicles it is in, like almost every corvette made since the 70's and still being made and improved.
Check out Horsepowertv.com, they have tons of info on various versions and upgrades that are available for the 350. They are also the powerplant of most of GM's full size luzury SUV's made recently a well as a multitude of trucks.
Yes I like my Disco, but I really liked the power my 351 Bronco had and the K5 is right up there with that. And a brand new engine and tranny. That would be hard for me to part with.
Glad you guys made out off the BP Fiasco.

Lifted K5's are badass......
When my cousin was looking for one, the issue was finding one not molested. It seems that everyone that had one, modifies one way or another.
It sounds like you might have found a gem. With all Chev's and 350's, you can find parts EVERYWHERE!

Well I personally live onThe beach and I never saw the oil. The oil dealt with water hundreds of miles off the coast on the deep horizon oil rig. I never technically found any oil any where on my beach. I never saw a dead turtle (although I'm sure there were some). I see the wholething a's a way for the government to stick it to the oil comPany nationally. Honestly Bo swooped right in gas everyone dry very high paying jobs and actually helped out. We sure needed them during Katrina when no one cared and miles and miles were nothing but foundations of homes and buildings. Katrina looked worse than a movie plot. The Bo oil spill was a tad bit over exaggerated. Atleast on how it effected the townsfolk! I'm sure it did damage to the fishies 200 miles out in the middle of no where.
Not that I'm downplaying the tragedy it's just that Bb actually did a great job of coming down here and making up for it. The national media never showed how much they helped. When in hurrican Katrina my house was 1 mile away from it's foundation and I lived in a tent for 3 months and insurance didn't pay a dime for a total house being demolished. And the media praised FEMA and bush for how good of a job they did in recovery. Honestly we still havnt recovered from Katrina but the damage give me a chance to tear **** up in my rover
