Default 1995 and 1996 Discoveries

I am looking at a 1995 Disco tomorrow afternoon that is not operational but is otherwise cosmetically in good repair. The reason I am looking to purchase this vehicle is because my disco has seen better days as far as body and interior. I would basically be taking the engine (and any other needed parts) from my disco, and dropping it into the new vehicle.

My question is, are those model years identical? Will I have any problems with compatibility?

Thanks!

95 has older engine control system, etc. 96 will have ECU controlling spark, 95 still has a distributor, etc. So plenty of cable and connector isues as well. RAVE manual will point out differences by looking at each year in electrical manual.

Maybe you can repair it with modest effort.

FWIW it would require allot more work than is practical to swap your GEMS equipped motor into the CUX14 95. Besides the mechanical difference there is a one difference that will require more time then the mechanical, the wiring harness and connectors. Too many overall issues to make it worth the time and effort. I'm sure you'd appreciate it but not many others in the market.

What's the issue with the 95 that it's not operational? Might consider getting that one running and sell or part out the 96 to pay down the cost. I'm not a huge fan of dizzy equipped motors for my own personal reasons but I do love the simplicity of the early trucks especially if they are manual everything.

Thanks everyone for your input. I didn't think to look at the computer system. Saved me a boatload of trouble.

If you know anyone interested, I have a 1995 Discovery, 5 speed for sale. It was running fine and now it cranks, no start. New fuel pump, new fuel filter, new battery, new ignition coil, new fuel tank from Land Rover Boerne due to recall. I am sure it is simple, but not for me. We don't have land rover knowledgeable people in Midland,Texas.
It might be out of time since I took the distributor off. New rotor and cap. I know these 5 speeds are hard to find. As I mentioned, it was running and driving fine. No dents, needs paint, headliner sagging. Has rear jump seats.
