Default 1995 LR Disco 3.9--Best starter recommendation?

In order to achieve cranking speed to activate injectors, the truck needs the best + fastest turning starter possible. Will also be installing high quality battery. Many thanks to all for helping me!

That's what I gather from other posts. Did change out battery to a high grade 1000 cranking amps, and it spins considerable faster, + will start now after a couple of seconds cranking.

FWIW, maybe just a new or rebuilt stock starter is all you need. My old starter was prettty slow turning. It had always been that way on my Disco for years, since I bought it. Then it got to the point where it just wouldn't hardly turn the motor over ...but it would still eventually start. I just assumed these starters were slower. I was going to buy a new starter, but I bought a used starter off ebay that was supposedly fairly new before the vehicle was parted out (it looked pretty new too) for pretty cheap. When I first hit the key it took off like a jack rabbit and cranked the motor over like crazy. I said to myself "WOW!". It cranks the engine over as fast as any starter on my other vehicles, which definitely was not the case with the old one. I should have changed it years earlier.

There's nothing special about the new starter, it just works like it should. When I hit the key it sounds like a GM starter (to me they have a specific 'sound'). My old starter had been oil-soaked for years and the contacts inside the solenoid were probably really pitted preventing good electrical transfer. I never took it apart to verify though. So maybe that's your problem, a worn out starter and a regular stock starter will work just fine. Make sure to double-check your cables too.

I have an Optima Yellow-top in my Disco ....but it works like any other battery. As long as you have a decent battery ...not one on it's last legs you should be ok.
