I also agree, my driver door is easy to unlock, but trying to lock it feels like the key should be close to breaking... These are heavy duty keys tho so they should take more than say an older GM key

Point being, if you have a backup key (and if you dont I suggest getting one anyway) whats the worst that can happen? You break the key in the door you cant lock anyways ...
Hi Nuclearw,

After playing with the doors some more today, sadly, I think I might have to swap door locks, I really wish I didn't have to... but sadly I do need to lock my doors

I don't have a backup key yet, but that is my next stop on this new adventure

That could be why nuclearw has 2 different keys...like I now do!

The Dscvry has a certain order to the unlocking/ locking of its doors, and alot of it is controlled by the driver's door. I don't have my vehicle right now to see if I can replicate your problem, but I know my vehicle has done that "locks popping up" thing. I'll post if I remember why, or if the manual explains it. Also, I think locking the driver's door from the outside with the key is the only way to lock the vehicle properly and arm its alarm system, unless there is a way to lock the truck from the inside with the cargo door open, and then climb out the cargo door, shut that door, and lock it with the key . I've never tried it, but when I get my truck back, I can let you know if it works!
Hi Magna Defender,

Thank you for your advice, and your willingness to experiment, I was thinking about trying the rear door approach, but my fear was that I might trigger the security system, and then be in even more trouble!

That would be my luck, really...

I asked my Land Rover Dealer about the whole key issue while I had my Range Rover in for service, and he said that the door mechanism just had to be rebuilt. I haven't opened the door yet, but is that even possible? How would that prevent the key from turning? Turning the key is like trying to turn a fence post in dried concrete... It just wont happen.

Thank you!

There are some good threads on this Forum abt fixing the door lock, but it can involve opening the door panel. Apparently, there's a rod and a little plastic piece that connects to the rod. That plastic piece either breaks or comes off the rod, usually when someone messes with the lock. It could be that your key won't turn (like stuck in concrete) b/c someone already messed with the door panel or lock (knew they broke it and tried to fix it).

I don't have my Dscvry right now, and the door lock Forum write-ups that I printed at one point are with my vehicle. Sorry ! But, try to search this Forum for "driver door lock/key" info. If I have time, I'll see if I can find some previous posts for you. Your driver lock is prolly broken b/c the vehicle had the "2-key" system, and someone kept forcing the wrong key, thinking it had to work b/c the 2-keys look so similar (only the grooves are different in the key cut). The person who broke it prolly thought the 2 keys were identical. When my lock broke, the first time that I tried the correct key, the cylinder wouldn't turn at all, similar to your description...like stuck in concrete. But, I knew it was the correct key, so I got PB-Blaster out and kept trying it. I finally got the key to turn, but it just turned in the cylinder, left and right; it didn't operate the locks. So, I couldn't lock my doors...same as you. In my case, I had just picked it up the day before from a shop, and remembered that when I got in the truck at that shop, the driver door was unlocked. I had told the mechanic it required 2 keys, but I'm guessing whoever moves the cars forced the wrong key. The shop offered to fix it. Now, I label the keys and use PB-Blaster often on all the locks/door hinges.

Discoveries are tricky and not every shop understands them. I often find that you need to be careful who works on them and don't hesitate to explain (even based on your limited experience) how things operate on them. Essentially, a preventive maintenance approach works best !

Thank you for your suggestions, I will start looking...

I love my new Discovery, I have been looking for what feels like a lifetime for one that had a perfectly straight body, and in my area, it is pretty hard to find any Discovery in good condition, its pretty sad.

I have so many question about so many things... I will be bugging people on this forum, for a long time

Thank you for your help!
