Here is my problem with the key...When I purchased the truck it did not come with an alarm "fob" key, just a standard mechanical one which at the time I thought was no big deal. I was going to buy a used one and reprogam it to open my vehicle. If that didn't work I would pay the dealer the 170+80 programming for a new key programmed and ready to go!
Turns out that there are only 4 "key slots" in the programming available, of which all 4 of mine had been previously programmed.
So, long story short, I was informed that for my Discovery to have a alarm fob to open and lock the doors I would need to replace the entire alarm system...Big bucks.
Is this true? anyone heard of similar story? Can the Land rover dealer do what an independant rover shop can't do?...program a new key to my existing system? Thanks I would at this oint pay the 250 to have a working alarm key.

 

That is not true, my understanding, you only have room for 2 FOB's and if another is needed, one old the old one just get cleared by the scanner and your new one gets coded in.
