Default 1997 Disco 1 rear door lock

My 97 Disco 1 requires a key to unlock the rear cargo door on each entry attempt even when all other doors are unlocked! Is there a way to bypass this feature?

Thanks

Your lucky, I have to open the back door, climb into the passenger seat, and unlock mine from the inside before I can open it haha.

Are you saying that the key fob doesn't unlock the rear door?

You need to repair the lock motor for the rear door. Mine works with all the other doors. You could also have an electrical issue with the cable on the hinge side of the rear hatch. It is easier to get at the connector inside the rear frame than take off panel to get at door motor. See attached pix. The door motors work by having DC voltage reversed to them, so they run one way to lock, and reverse to un lock. The rear lock motor is pin 1 and pin 7 of connector C414.

Mine only opens when I use the key, turn and open.

No, I have no FOBS, I unlock all the doors via the drivers door. Onced unlocked, the cargo door still requires being unlocked with the key, u can unlock it, open it, but once you close it but it locks and requires going back in with key.

For some reason it relocks on closing!

Thanks

Then sounds like bad actuator inside the rear hatch. If you unplug that connector outside the door, it should lock or unlock with key, but not re-lock or obey electric locking commands. A broken wire in door cable can do this, I geuss same cable could be pinched and shorted to voltage from somewhere (sub amp, etc).

According to the manual, all of the doors should open when you unlock the front with the key. Sounds like you've got a hardware problem

All my door lock motors work with the fob or in synchronizing with the driver's door, but some of the control rods and finger-grabs have stiction behind the door panel or through the panel opening for the finger-grab and some of them fail to actuate fully some of the time.

Have someone actuate the driver's lock while you listen to the rear door panel and see if the motor is working at all (since it locks the door I bet it works) and whether the rod just isn't free enough to succeed in unlocking.
