Very excited to finally officially join the forum. Today I got my dream car, 1997 Discovery 1.
Looked over by a land rover mechanic and given the stamp approval. Great shape, minimal rusting, no leaks. So far just needs shock absorbers, and steering stabilizers. 108,000 miles. 3rd owner
Some may hate me but my dream has always been British Racing Green. The patina on the charleston is so cool but it's so not me. One step at a time. Open to chatter. Would also love the original bumper. A Lot to learn. Check her out!
Congrats, cool truck. What part of PA? Say what you will about that front bumper but you've got some sweet angle of approach there.
Thanks a lot! NW of Philly in SE Pa. Admittedly a newbie as this is the first time I'm not just staring at a land rover through my screen. I won't be taking it off roading, do the stock front bumpers run into issues?
That approach angle is as good as it gets. Welcome to the forum. You have a nice truck. Take care of it!
You can still get the parts to assemble an original bumper. All you need is the metal bumper (one piece), the bumper plinth (plastic center piece) and the corner end caps. And the mounting hardware.
congrats!!
If you do intend to take it offroad - KEEP THE BUMPERS the stock bumpers are for looks only and will fold if you look at them crossed eyed.
Get yourself a 2" lift and some 32" tires!
But SERIOUSLY - RUST............ if it really has minimal rust and you intend on keeping it from the crusher for a long time - - dont drive it in the winter salt we get on the East coast AND.....educate yourself on POR-15 rust inhibitor. Get a gallon of it and any primers etc. it requires, follow the directions and spend a weekend under the truck coating the frame and body seems and then get wax coating blown into the areas you cant reach.
Some places to coat and keep an eye on for rust:
rear door jam at the top of the wheel arch
bottoms of A B and C Pillars - behind the plastic stone guard (fyi those are one use plastic rivets holding it on)
Where the front wings meet the fire wall especially under the brake master cylinder
lower part of front core support at body mounts.

Thank you so much. It's my dream truck and I'm gonna take great care of it. this is so helpful! Do you know if this current bumper is compatible to add the remaining stock parts needed?
congrats!!

haha thanks! It's mainly going to reside in NYC. It was already coated and I intend to keep up with it. Good idea to keep it safe in the winter. I've heard the winters are brutal. There is some rusting in the rear door jams above the wheel wells that was repaired and could be repaired better. Will send pics. Thanks!

Can't tell you how helpful this is. In terms of adding the lower section of the bumper too, how would I go about finding that part name? Is this the correct part? Give me a few weeks and I'll be much less of a newb haha
