1997 fule pump?

Replacing the fuel filter is good insurance. I believe mine caused my fuel pump to fail over time. It's a PITA, but often neglected.

Depending on how much money you want to throw at it, replace the fuel filter regardless and the fuel pump if you choose. With it being an inheritance, you may as well do it justify and you should be set for a long happy ownership with it. It must have lots of sentimental value and that is something that should be maintained and passed on for loving care and a long useful life. It is probably in better shape than the typical LR encountered on here.

Especially since it is slated for your daughter, I am sure you want it in the best of shape and dependable. Let us know the results and do not be afraid to ask for help.
