Default 1998 Discovery

I just bought a 1998 Discovery and I'm looking for some advice. I'm starting off doing some light suspension work and I'm going to flush all of the fluids and do a lube order. The motor is strong and all everything pretty much works after giving it a little TLC this past weekend.

I'm looking for advice on:

Recommended fluids/lube. Basically if anyone has any experience with products they would recommend.

Where to find a digital copy of an owner's manual.

Any advice concerning just about anything Land Rover.

Love this forum. Already found a fix for my electric seat switch and brake light switch.

Thanks!

Here is a link to the RAVE manual, it will become your new friend. At the top of the Disco 1 forum is a tech sticky and it should have all the info your looking for.

Most run Rotella 15w40 in our D1s. Good luck.

Rob.

Might want to look at the sticky at the top of this section for Major Service, you probably have a lot to do.

After / while doing the major service items, you should check for rust inside the truck.

Remove the trim pieces along all 5 of the doors which hold down the carpet.

Pull up the carpet & padding. Check for moisture and rust. If any moisture found, start tracking down the leaks and rip out the padding. The padding seems made to retain water.

Thank you for all of the responses and the links. From what I'm looking at, dropping a fuel pump seems pretty straight forward. We'll see...

Thanks also for the info on checking for moisture. It rained a lot here this weekend and I noticed a little dampness near the rear passenger seat.

A 180F stat and new thermostat gasket should be under $15 and will be well worth it. Get a scanner or Ultra Gauge to see real temps.

You want to rebuild that pump sender assembly new is expensive, there is a part number here for a cheap autozone pump that works that's what I did

I recently bought a 1998 as well. What I can tell you is that you've landed in the right place. The sticky page is your Bible and when the senior guys speak listen. There advice will save a lot of heart ache in the end. Lastly be prepared to be in what I call a Disco state of mind. Your disco will require work, (had this epiphany while lying under it yesterday pulling the oil pan) so get in the mind set to save money and do it yourself. this group will get you through it.
