2 birds with 1 stone, coolant in oil and misfire fix.
I have a 96 disco, which for the most part was in decent condition when I picked it up. Besides a few little things bad window ecu and check engine light was on for excessive emissions misfire. The check engine light was on my to do list for when it got nicer out and i wanted to solve the problem. The past 4 months of ownership was good until my oil pressure light flickered on and off at me when I came to a quick stop. I checked the oil and the level on the dipstick was way high. Drained it out and sure enough it was coolant, freaked out thinking head gasket went, it turned out to just be a timing gasket. Previous owner didn't have one in there, it was just caulked and bolted on. Now after the repair all is well and the check engine light has gone away too. I was curious as to how the two problems were connected? I'm new to engines larger than a two stroke, thought this scenario was fairly odd and thought I could get an idea of what happened.

the "timing " cover or front cover houses the oil pump and holds the water pump. I suppose if the sealing surfaces of the cover werent sealed properly some coolant could have leaked into the cover and thus into the crankcase.
Keep watch of your coolant level !! if your truck hasn't had new head gaskets yet, It will likely need them sometime in the future.....
