Question Sounds like birds are in the engine

Over the past week I have noticed a slight chirping noise when a barely push the gas. If I hold the gas down just a little, like when I am maintaining speed, I get what sounds like a loose belt. I can't get it to do it when its parked so I can't pinpoint where it is coming from. I am taking it in to the shop next week but wanted a consensus before I let them tell me what they think is wrong. BTW: I have a tom woods ds, I know its not the brakes, and it started with a vibrating rattle in the exhaust that went away before I could find where it was coming from. I have a cel on but it is for a knock sensor that I will be replacing soon. Thanks for the help!

Have you crawled under the truck yet and wiggled things around?

yes but nothing moves. When I was hearing the rattle I was under there for an hour poking and wiggling but couldn't find anything. There was a little bit of play in the ds in the back towards the transfer case but it is a fairly new shaft and has been greased at every oil change. Edit: I meant to mention that I have new tires that are causing more vibration... I was thinking something jiggled loose from the vibrations?

Are there any long hills around you?
Does it only happen at a certain road speed?
Transmission in 4th it does it but not 3rd?

Seems to happen no matter the speed, only when I am maintaining speed (if I accelerate to speed up it disappears) Does not sem to matter if I am riding in 3rd or 4th. And yes I have plenty of hills around here but the noise quits if I am accelerating up the hill.

Ok, go to the top of a hill, start moving, shift into neutral and then shut the engine off.
Does it still chirp?
Obviously doing this there cant be any other cars around and without power brakes stopping will be harder but you will be going slow and you can restart the truck while rolling in neutral.

Are you sure it is no the drive shaft, was it rebuilt, did it get a new centering ball, have you tried greasing it yet. The only other 2 things that might make that noise might be the heat shield or a pulley/belt.

I tried the hill thing spike and it only makes the noise in gear. If I hold the gas down making that noise and switch to neutral it goes away. I greased the ds again today but no difference and mike, its a tom woods shaft so I bought it new prob 10,000 - 20,000 miles ago...

I had the chirping issue. Intermittent under load. It was the tensioner pulley.

Yup I agree with glider, belt tensioner.
Remove your fan belt and then drive it up and down the street and see if it does it, of course you will need to keep a eye on the temp gauge but for the 5 mins you will be running the engine from stone cold you will be fine.
