300tdi ac switch issues
Hi all, I have a D1 with AC, I’m pretty confident the switch is knackered and typically it’s a part that’s no longer reproduced.
I can get the compressor to work direct off the battery so I know this works abs if I bridge the switch the condenser fans kick in so I know these work.
my question is does the condenser fans run all the time when ac is on? If so can stick it on on switch, if it doesn’t I have to work out how to get a feed from the sensor or relay if it has one?
thanks
russ

like I said if I know if the condenser fans run all the time the compressor does I can fix it with a £2 switch

then take the wiring from behind switch and splice / wire to a .99 cent toggle switch

Send these guys a message and see if they can still obtain the switch. No need to replace the entire panel. I bought a switch from them about 5 years ago. Shipping is pretty quick and not too expensive.

https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/83190/0/switch_push_type_air_con_discovery_1___range_rover _classic_from_vin_mathe compressor has continuity to earth but no power I can prove this by keeping the earth on and making a separate power.
so nothing switches the power to compressor or the wire is broken.
sadly I have some pretty decent landrover manuals but none seem to cover the actual wiring diagram for the AC so I can’t see what switches the compressor on.
there is talk on the forums about an AC relay but again ran it last night and pulled every relay out in the passenger foot well and it never stopped working?!?!?
oddly when I removed the fuse for ac in the engine on ignition the compressor clicked in and out every time I put back, so power is there, as soon as you start the engine though clicks out and won’t work on the switch!
going to fit a relay to the switch power and battery and just have it manually done but this may mean it doesn’t work in “auto” ie when the temp drops the fans on condenser may keep going I’m not sure yet
