Default 4.2 in my disco

Long time no talk!

Unfortunately I am on here due to a noise in my engine. I am getting a rather loud metallic noise inside my engine. Not entirely sure if it is the lifter or the piston making the noise but it is slowly getting worse. I have the option to get a 4.2 for free and I have learned that it will work in my 95.

What my question to you is, are there any unforeseen issues I am going to come across when installing the engine? IE mating it to the transmission, starter positioning, weird electrical connection issues, accessories which may not function properly?

Any insight is very welcome!

Should bolt right in, with lots more power.

How about any maintenance that should be performed while it is out? It was rebuilt 70k miles ago however even after 70k miles I am sure a good solid service is in order.

As long as the 4.2 has a disributor set-up, which I believe they all were,it's a bolt-in.

BTW, are you positive the noise is internal engine? I had a cat converter on my '98 making a loud knock that I was positive was a rod knocking.

No I am not sure. It could be something else however I am getting this new engine regardless since it is free. How did you find out it was the cat?

I crawled under my truck when it was ideling to get a better listen, and was pretty sure it was coming from the drivers side cat. Took it to an exhaust shop, they confirmed and cut and welded in a new one. Noise gone.
