5 speed tranny noise

Default 5 speed tranny noise

I just picked up my POS disco yesterday and when i shift from 3rd to 4th there is a small click noise and when i down shift from 5th to 4th it grinds. Clutch going or is it syncros?

If it was the clutch it would effect all the gears. Since it sounds like the problem is limited to 4th gear I would think the syncro is a more likely candidate. Of course I think the syncro failing would effect all the gears also. When was the last time the tranny was serviced?

i have no idea. ill probably give it some lovin. i got this thing for 1500 so i think i need to do a once over on it all. might do clutch and sycros because it will be easier if the tranny is dropped.

Since you just got the truck it's a good time to go through the 60K service.

Many people use ATF in the R380 (assuming that's what you have) because that's what the manual calls for, but Rover released a TSB saying to use MTF.
Redline MTL is the lube of choice for most people in them.
