Default 95 Disco coolant leak

My disco will leak anti freeze every now and then. It does not over heat but it makes a mess in the driveway. Can someone tell me where the pressure relief is located in these things. The leak seems to come from the back of the engine not the radiator, hoses or tank.

OK. lets get right to the bad news....

The leak if it's coming from the rear, is most likely the valley pan gasket. I had the exact issue on my 97 last week.

Replacing it is not hard, but will eat up a little time. You should be able to buy the gasket and the rubber end caps for about 30 bucks. You might as well just go ahead and do the valve cover gaskets at the same time since it only adds another hour or so of work and you are already down to them.

It was a job well outside of my "comfort zone" but I found a great guide on doing it over on another forum and dove in. It took about 5 hours and passes all test yesterday when I took it out for it's first test drive.

I'm not sure what the rules are about posting to another forum, but I will gladly provide the link if thats ok.

Read that tread and you should get a good handle on what's involved. You will need to also download the RAVE and have it handy.

You have to get this fixed. Letting it go will cause all kinds of damage to your engine. For one, your cooling system will not pressurize correctly, and you could boil your coolant, overheat your engine and take out your head gaskets or works warp your heads...

In doing mine over the last week, I discovered a lot of other little issues I was able to take care of, old vac lines, bad heater lines, bad radiator hoses etc... Figured I might as well fix it all as I went so it took me over a week to do the job, most of that time waiting to get parts from roverparts.

Don't be scared to do this. It will seem Daunting but if you can follow the instructions take your time and just do it, you will be right as rain. Plus you have a new found confidence in your rover when done.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to pressure test the system today when I get home. Any idea where the pressure relief is?

Are you speaking of the pressure cap? It the black plastic cap on the plastic expansion tank itself. Head over to advance auto parts, they should have a tool you can barrow for the test. The system should hold about 15 pounds I believe.

But the leak is the leak. Pray that I'm correct, because the other alternative it the head gasket itself, and thats a job I have not done but as I understand it, is very detailed.
