Springs are dumb, they compress under load. They don't know or care if the load is coming from the ground up or the top down, it's irrelevant.
The only time spring orientation matters at a is on a progressive spring. Even then the orientation doesn't effect the performance, I just like to mount them with the tighter spaced could at the top. If they tighter coils were at the bottom more mud and rocks would get stuck inside the spring around the shock.

My 97 sagged to the passenger side before I replaced springs and shocks with OME HD. I carefully installed them on the correct sides, and afterwards it still listed to the passenger, though much less. Later, I installed a spring spacer shim on the right rear spring and that further corrected the "lean" though it is still noticeable. Now I live with it.
Also, there are several D1s around my area, and many of them lean the same way. That may not make you feel better, but just know you are not alone.
