Default 96 SD Drag Link Rubber split on ball joint?

New to this drag link part. What does a split rubber on the ball joint imply? Does it need replacing? It's on passenger side close to swivel pin.
If replace where is a good source? New, used?

Thanks for all comments.

Yes it needs replacing. Water and dirt will get in there and rust/destroy the ball joint in no time. I prefer the greseable joints, as long as you grease them they will last a long time. I just hit them when I grease my drive shafts at regular (maybe obsessive) intervals.

pick up the terrafirma tie rod, track rod and damper from Lucky 8 they have greaseable joints and are twice as thick as the stock ones.
