Default 97 disco 1 intake plenum gasket

hi everyone, I need help with the plenum gasket. I have the wrong gasket here. I believe the one I have is for a bosch engine and mine is a gems engine. Can I use some sort of a gasket maker for the intake plenum? If I can, I am not sure which kind to choose. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

LR never made a gasket for the GEMS engine intake plenum - not sure why but you just use the liquid gasket material

Thank you so much! I looked for hylomar but I couldn’t find hylomar stuff where I am so I went with permatex fuel safe gasket maker. Fingers crossed 🤞

My favorite gasket maker for that joint is Loctite 577, with activator primer coat. I have also used Toyota FIPG with good results. The Right Stuff should work fine too, but the Loctite is super clean compared to silicon paste type sealers. Permatex should work fine, but might be trouble to remove later on.

I think that gasket is for the D2 models.

Thanks again. This forum has been super helpful. Kinda dangerous I makes me do things that are above my skill level 😀 I am doing a head gasket job right now for example and I am sure I’ll be back with questions or with a disco for sale 😀

Take your time and be methodical. You’ll be fine. I don’t think a HG job is really that difficult, just a lot of relatively simple steps.

Agreed. It's mostly about being organized and detail oriented including keeping things clean and in order. Have a table ready for parts. Clean them as they come off. Have cardboard ready, egg cartons, etc for however you want to organize the order thing comes off in (like push rods and rockers that you want to get back in the same positions, etc).

Go to the google drive in my signature. You will find nearly all the manuals and a video covering a head gasket job.

Good luck!
