The section on removing the timing chain. Working on getting the cover and sump off now so I can get there.

This may help, from the overhaul manual, that is in the pdf/general file, and they have overhaul info for each engine. Have more expanded pages of cylinder head gasket renew, etc, also.

TDC is Top Dead Center.

You are moving into an area beyond the HG replacement?

Thanks I'll take a look.

Yeah I want to replace oil pump, water pump, timing chain, main bearings, and piston rings. Trying to make it rock solid.

Well, you could have started with one from the junk yard at this rate. Bet it will be getting nippy in the garage, hope you have safe heat. I keep thinking that you have not even begun to deal with all the non-engine little things that will be waiting on you. Of course, when you are done, you'll have a Disco that can rule the dirt!

Not sure how much they'll charge yet but I'll post it when I find out. In short they said it depends on the shape of the head.

Oh well, no turning back now. Garage has stayed warm so far. The non-engine things are ok. I already know what a few are. I want to go over this thing with a fine tooth comb, clean what is dirty, and replace what is broken. It'll be like new by the time I'm done, or at least that's the goal

Well, you might as well follow up by removing the cross member, dropping the transmission pan and renewing the filter and gasket as well as fluid while you've got it so far along. Just keep working your way back.

And set up an account with that Snap-on Truck Driver. You can probably do a payroll deduction plan and build up a nice tool set at the same time.

Actually, we are expecting Solidworks or AutoCad by the end of the project....

And while you are at it, be sure and record all those socket sizes. My biggest disappointment with the RAVE is they do not ever include that crucial piece of information.

That is why I prefer to print it out and mark it up as I go. I just have not had to go to the places you have jumped into(yet).

How's the water down there?

Just had the radiator quoted for a rodding out. 150$ for one side, 250 for both. Beats 500+ for a new one though.
