Thanks Tom.

I just took a peak at my front axle. I see the fill hole for the swivel joint, but I don't see a drain hole, or a "level" hole as I saw in the video you posted.

Just checked the code on my CEL, p0420, I guess I'll have to replace the cats as well.

Not all D1's have a drain/level hole. Just cram about a liter of oil in the swivel. Grease if your seals aren't good.

Sounds easy. I am going to remove some shims as well from the locator pin to see if I can tighten up the swivel bearings. I guess what you guys are saying is that there should be a seal in place, from the factory that separates the swivel lube, from the differential lube.

About the bad cat code.. I came across this thread where a guy modified his 02's to trick the ECM into thinking the cats were still good:

sorry to piggyback on this? but what was the cutoff for grease/oil from the factory? pretty sure mine has grease, there are two "genuine land rover swivel grease has been applied" stickers under the hood on my truck. Can I just buy more of if and slam it in there without servicing the whole thing?

If you have the small drain plug it looks like this Drain Plug - Swivel Housing (Part # 236070 ) - Land Rover swivel ***** & parts from Atlantic British

RE: " I am going to remove some shims as well from the locator pin to see if I can tighten up the swivel bearings" This is not going to end well. Your next post will be "Why do I have DEATH WOBBLE???" SEARCH it.

And this vid answers a $hitload of questions and show the seals(1:16 is the stub axle seal)

Actually pulling a shim or two usually helps death wobble.

" Actually pulling a shim or two usually helps death wobble " On a truck w 200K miles I hope so. I say just pull this B$ apart and fix it right... & be done with it. I think you would agree this is more labor/time than it is money to set this problem straight.

Since I only have a fill plug, and no drain or level, that should mean my came with grease. According to the video, and since oil drained out, I either have a bad axle seal.. or grease sort of turns into oil after being in a CV joint for 200k.
