97 Disco Radio

97 Disco Radio
Just bought a 97 Disco, the radio turns on, but the only sound is from the speakers on the back door. Not good sound but noise, sounds like when a speaker is blown.
Any ideas? I did search but I am pretty much computer stupid.
One more question, the cruse does not work where do I start lookong?

First the bad news: you need to use a computer to download the free set of shop manuals below called the RAVE. Covers electrical also.
You need to go to the technical area of the Disocvery 1 section on this forum and look at the write ups, especially the one for 60K mile service.
Change oil early and often, like 5000 miles. Check all fluids weekly, this is a Rover.
Keep eyeball on temp gauage - above 9:00 is starting to overheat.
Now for the cruise: see https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...-layout-44078/, a post that has pictures of where all the vacuum lines go under the hood, could be a loose or cracked line.
Now for the radio:
From the RAVE tech manual:
My sub woofer and amp were part of the back door. The front/rear speakers go directly to the radio. Common for sub woofer speaker cones to be blown out.
Not sure if you have a security code to enter for the radio, it may have gone to sleep after a dead battery.

amplifier. For mid– and high–range, the system is
also equipped with a radio waveband switch and a
tune switch, a volume up and a volume down switch
which are located on the fascia next to the
instrument cluster.
The control head is equipped with an anti–theft
feature which makes the unit inoperative once
battery power is removed. A security code must be
entered to restore power to the unit. On every level
the system is equipped with two rear and two front
speakers. Optional front tweeters are available for
high line radio.
Battery voltage is provided to the control head at all
times through the P wire. In addition to monitoring
the anti–theft feature, this input keeps the preset
station memory alive. Whenever battery power to the
unit is lost, the anti–theft code must be entered and
the preset stations must be reprogrammed.
When the Radio (Z111) and the ignition are turned
on, the voltage signal through the LGO wire and the
control head wakes up

From there the amplified signal goes to the two speakers/tweeters in the front, and the two speakers on the rear panels ('D' column if you will). An un-amplified signal is also sent from the amp to the rear door where you have a small amplifier and two subwoofers.
If none of the four are producing sound, you either have four blown speakers OR they are not hooked up to the amp.
It is really hard to determine what the prior owner may have done.
The first test I'd do is to pull the speakers out of the door and see if they function. Hook them up to a home stereo at a very low volume to see if they produce sound.
If they do, you need to take a closer look at the amp in the footwell
If none of the four are producing sound, you either have four blown speakers OR they are not hooked up to the amp.
It is really hard to determine what the prior owner may have done.
