98 Disco for a 94 range - good trade or no?
Hey guys I need some quick but through advice regarding trading my 98 disco for a 94 range rover. Was just contacted by a guy in Salem NH, who claims he wants to trade for a newer landy. I asked for pics so I expect ill get some tonight sometime. Supposedly it has had a lot of work put into it and it currently needs nothing*.
Contrast:
RangeRover:
1.) Has around 140-150k
2.) Has had faulty power steering serviced (unknown at this time)
3.) Has new all season tires.
4.) Has new transmission filter kit installed.
5.) Has had a lot of work and needs nothing...
6.) Rust on passenger aide wheel arch.
7.) 3 amigos and engine missfire.
8.) Differential lock works.
9.) Interior is alright except a tear in drivers seat.
10.) Rear bumper corner pieace is missing.
11.) Has 1 new muffler and cat installed.
My 98 discovery:
1.) Has 196k.
2.) New ps hose and replacement ps gearbox installed. No leaks.
3.) New alignment, tire rotation and steering damper rod straightened.
4.) New rear driveshaft installed, new steering damper installed, 2" lift, good tire rod ends and bearings.
5.) New spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter all installed. Topped fluids.
6.) New parts to be installed. New brake master cylinder with abs. New oil pan gasket. New oil pan washer. New oil pan bolts and nuts. New ignition coil. New transmission filter kit. New bonnet release cables. 2 of 4 new Yokohama ats all terrain tires. Undercoating in last 2 years. Minimum rust.
7.) Rust hole on passenger wheel arch.
9.) Differential lock is stuck.
10.) Engine missfire and 3 amigos.
11.) Rear tires are bald.
12.) Front bumber needs work.
So take afew moments and build a good case for me. I respect the range rover but generally speaking its not my personal preference... I love the Discovery and the only thing I want more than what I have now is a Discovery series 2. In the past I have found afew disco owners looking to trade there disco for a range rover... Would anyone here consider trading there disco for this 94 range rover? If I decide to go with the trade? All thoughts please.

The RRC has a distributor. I don't like distributors..... just another thing to maintain, but it's pretty easy and cheap.
The RRC shouldn't have a locking center diff, unless someone swapped the borg warner transfer case with a lt230.
The RRC doesn't have HDC, so it shouldn't have the classic 3 amigos that the D2 has.
Why would someone be willing to trade their well running RRC for a not so well running D1? Makes me wonder if they know something about the car they aren't telling you.

An RRC is not a good choice for a "flip" vehicle. It's too small of a market and with that high mileage it will not be worth it, even for a huge RRC fan.
You get a free winch with this one and they say all the rust has been repaired ---> 1988 Range Rover/Land Rover
To ditto what Jafir said : The 3 Amigos is a DII ONLY thing. It doesn't translate over to other LR models.
P.S. - You guys are nuts if you think RRC's are ugly, that's the classic Rover!

Hmmm I'll have to wait and see what it looks like. But I will say that 140-150k is a lot better than 196k! Lol. As for the 3 amigos... My disco 1 has them illuminated.
Just did some research and found this 94 range rover with a extra shifter... Is this a aftermarket diff setup or a stock diff lock?1994 Range Rover

94 should have the viscous coupler and not a CDL UNLESS its had the LT230 swap done. Axles will be 24 spline so no problem there. Motor will be the same. Hmmmmmm, Yours is lifted but needs tires. To lift a RRC 2" is easy..............I think the decision will come down to when you drive the RRC. Body wise I dont like the way a Disco looks so top heavy compared to a RRC.
