Default 99 Discovery won’t start

Hello, im relatively new to the Land Rover Discovery and I’ve had the same issue twice. It won’t start. Won’t crank, or even try to turn over. The first time I replaced the battery and fixed the problem, or so I thought. Now 2 weeks later, with no signs of an issue I go to my car and it won’t start (same issue as before, won’t crank or even try, no sounds at all)

Does this sound like an alternator problem?

Red Light flashing like crazy on the dash? It could a bad battery, dirty connections, loose battery terminals, dirty grounds, or the alarm system.

No lights at all on the dash. Which seems like a battery problem, although I just put a brand new one in about 2 weeks ago. That’s the strange part, I’ll double check the connections, they looked tight but maybe just a reconnect will do the job. Thanks for the response.

As for the alarm system, I haven’t been able to use it, put a new battery in the key and it still won’t work, I just lock it manually with the key. Any suggestions? What about the alarm could keep it from turning on?

Get the battery tested, or check the charge on it. Also if you get it running meter the battery with the engine off 12.5-12.9v & with it running you should be 13.2-14.1v. You could have a small battery drain or a dead alternator (usually the battery light comes on). Clean those terminals really good & tighten them down & go from there.

You’re very kind. Thank you for your support! I was able to jump start it, drove it for a little while and was able to start it again. I will check the charge (both on and off) there isn’t a battery light on, so that’s good news! I will also try cleaning the connectors, they don’t seem terrible but I’m sure they could be cleaner.

Thanks again

1999 was a 'cross over' year in which both D1 AND D2's were produced. Confirm you have a D1 and confirm your belt is routed correctly (this diagram is for a D1)
