Default AEL pump in non-AEL truck

I have a 96 (non-AEL) disco and found a truck at the wrecker that has AEL. I know there are other cheap options but providing I can get this pump for almost free, is it usable in a non-AEL truck?

I do believe it is. There is a pressure sensor on the AEL that you won't have a plug for. Beyond that the connector might be a little different for the pump/float connection.

Got the cover off in the trunk and can see the pump now. Doesn't look like the one connector would be a problem and the 2nd port in the AEL pump could just go unused but there is a vacuum hose with no where to plug into so I think that will be an issue.

That said, if I am testing voltage correctly, I am only getting 5V or so to the pump .... Either I am testing the wrong pins or else I have some type of a problem with wiring.

But hopefully my voltage reading was wrong. This seems like a problem....

5V would be the float side of the plug. You don't have to change the whole cage with the AEL, just swap the pumps. Also the pump circuit only runs for a few seconds, it takes two people to check it, someone to turn the ignition and the other testing the plug.

Wow, that baby got hot....... nice. Mobile Rover bomb.

Yeah - apparently the AEL pump I got is inop. Plugged the pump motor into a 12V battery and no noise...

Also the fitting connecting the fuel return line to the pump is stripped (the crimped fitting on the line itself, not the pump). What to do... what to do ...
