Default After market stero question

I am installing a new stero and speakers in my 95 disco, I have bypassed the amp using the existing 4 pos speaker wires from the old radio to the amp location and running 4 new neg speaker wires from the radio to the amp location and then tying into the old speaker wires that run from the amp location to the speakers, so the old amp is completely out of the system, and it works - for about 10 to 30 seconds then I lose audible output. It appears the unit is still working as the graphic display still shows the output levels going up and down with what ever is playing. I can shut the unit off, turn it back on and I have audible output again for a short period of time and then it goes out again.

Do any of you stero experts have a suggetion on what might be happening.

Thanks Mike

i just did mine recently and cut as much of the old wiring out and replaced it with new amp, speakers, head unit and sub it was much easier once i saw how many different colors of wired there were. Idk why they didnt just use the same wire color from head unit to amp to speaker. I am very happy with the way it sounds, amp tucked under the drivers seat but now i have a hole in the rear door where the old subwoofers were but that will soon be replaced with a sheet metal panel. I didnt make new holes or bigger ones, i found some 4" 3 way speakers and but in a 10" sub woofer, whole truck vibrates I LOVE IT!!!!! Good luck with your install. Also I found it to be easier to remove the whole fascia for the heater controls etc to get at the old wiring.
