When extracting both switches out of their fitting, I pulled to hard (onforgivable mistake !)
Now both switches (BTR6491 and STC1863) don’t rest “pushed in” after the first push ; for engaging I must be staying continually pushing.
But the switches in some way work like a ballpoint, a mechanism with a spring built in. Perhaps there’s a way to get the spring back in place.
You can see the switch is composed by 2 parts fitting in each other by some hooks and lips. So I trayed carefully to separated both pieces by bending the hooks away, but after a few seconds I decided to give up at the moment because neither piece didn’t move.
I drive now with a very tiny piece of (soft) wood to hold the air/con-switch engaged.
Have someone any experience in opening the Air/con-switch ?
Thanks for helping me.
Kind regards,
PierroDisco
Both switches in left lower side of climate controle
In fact it is about the same method when I explained about 2 years ago how you can clean the contact surfaces in the window switches.
With just one difference : the 2 halves from the window switch are much more easier separated then by the Air/Con-switch.
Wish me good luck !
Were you ever able to get the BTR6491 switch back up and running? If not, were you able to find any replacement ones? My A/C switch stopped working yesterday and I'm going to try to do a little troubleshooting this weekend to see if the a/c system is charged and the compressor is working. Thanks so much.
My AC was problematic. I cleaned the switch and recharged the system which worked but discovered I have a slow leak and it loses cooling power after a week or so.
The switches themselves usually don't break and just need a good cleaning and a rebuild.
The switches are not available online anymore your best bet is to buy used or salvage. I have read that a rear ac D2 switch will work as a replacement and those are available on eBay for $40 or so.
D1/D2 rear ac switch is the same switch minus the front bezel with the snow flake icon which pops off. Those switches are hardly used so a secondhand one usually works perfect.
Finally I have repaired the function of both Air/con and Recirculation switches !
Put your mobile and the radio out to concentrate on the following working method :
- First disgates the 4 tabs ( 2 at both opposite sides) out of the meeting cavities ; then pull strongly both parts out of each other ; probably the surrounding of the 4 cavities will be endommaged and pointing out.
- There is a kind of fine round rod in a square hook ; these hook was going out of the white plastic holder in the other part ; this hook makes the switch push in first and then pull out, when pressed in.
- Replace the two parts while paying attention the hook is just in the grove on the white plastic holder (you can guide de hook with a small screwdriver f.e.)
- Meanwhile make the two long springs gliding in both round cavities.
- When refitting the switches in the holder under heater matrix wiggel them carefully : cause to the outpointing surrounds of the tabs, both switches doesn’t fit perfect anymore.
Small blue circles : cavity for both springs Great circle : rot with square hook
Square hook fits in sleeve in white component
From now let the sun shine : no problems anymore with such powerful air/con !
