Default Alarm Issue

If I lock the doors with the key fob, the alarm will randomly go off a little while later.

Also, when I unlock with the fob, the light on the instrumentation blinks until I start the vehicle.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that my drivers door sensor has no wire going to it?

When I unscrew this thing, there is no wire connected to it.

I should add that, yes, I fished around for the wire with an unbent paperclip, but couldnt feel or snag anything.

I wouldn't bet on that being the cause. My '96 D1 has never had one of these connected on the driver side front door in the entire time that I've owned the truck. I don't have any alarm issues, or blinking lights on the dash...

Have you looked for the Alarm 'spider'? If not, search D-web for it...it's just a guess, but disabling the spider is the first thing I'd try to remove the alarm from the equation...

Yes. I have a GEMS truck. (I also have a '94 D1 for parts, so I understand the difference in the FOBs...)

haha, ok.

Yeah, Ive done some reading on the spider. Maybe Im dense, but it wasnt clear to me whether bypassing it would address this problem. Tearing into the dash on a "maybe" wasnt very enticing

Does bypassing the spider more or less get rid of all alarm/security features?

Ok, I read that "Definitive Spider" post more carefully. Sounds like the Spider affects immobilization only, and bypassing will have no effect on the alarm.

After a bit of head scratching and poking through the wiring diagram I decided the most robust repair was to hard-wire the right pins for inputs and outputs together, it darned well couldn't go wrong then the alarm still works OK though.

dcarr1971: You say your red security light doesnt blink. Do you know if your alarm system is actually functional?

You are correct.. They spider immobilizes the truck.. Not your issue..

The thing you have pictured is your door switch...It needs to have a wire on it to tell the truck that you're opening and closing the door..
The reason your alarm goes off is that after the alarm fully arms then it thinks something is wrong because you haven't opened and closed the door...I believe that switch shorts the wire to ground when it's closed. (door open) The way the alarm led flashes will tell you what kind of issue the alarm is seeing.. I believe if you'll look in the owners manual part of the rave, You'll figure it out..

Good Luck

Find that wire...

John
