Default Almost bought 1998 D1

So today I went to check out a 1998 D1 after I had looked at a 2003 D2. The D2 was to cracked out for what they were asking. After that one I went and looked at a 98 D1. It looked somewhat ok for the year but I declined after I saw alot of oil spread out throughout the under carriage, driver front tire inside bald to belts and interior was pretty beat up. Of course sun daded like a mother. Anyways after I told the owner I was gonna pass on it. He called me 10 minutes later and said I'm gonna give you an offer you can't refuse. He was going to give it to me for dirt cheap. 1200$ sweet deal but I was still 5 hours away from home and not trying to worry if it was going to make the drive home. I'm sure later I'll regret it but as for now, I don't. I really don't know to much about these land rovers like I would like to.its a whole new animal going from Jeep to these. But I am looking for a decent D2 ES7.

At this point anything that isn't riddled with rust you should ****** up. The other stuff is easy to fix.

Do it you wont regret it sounds like it may need some new seals but just monitor the fluid levels as you drive it home and you should be good

agree - 98 DI's dont have the time bomb engine that drops a sleeve
dont fret the oil - they all leak - mine is disgusting underneath too but I have had mine for over 10yrs after buying it when it was 8 and I just make sure it gets a good cleanning here and there and check the fluids.

Check the frame and inner front wheel well for rust
I would buy a DI again over a DII any day of the week
