With a projector the beam is cut off correctly just like stock HID setups. If a cop wants to give me trouble I'd ask them to explain the difference between mine and a "legal" setup. Not that it would likely help.

Well, if he'd done his homework he could tell you that the lenses are different for HID and halogen headlamps. Also fitting them in to the housing is a very precise "art" and requires specific lighting test equipment to make sure they are correct.
But yeah, mainly it's generally not a good idea to argue with a cop.

HID would be great, but probably the best way to do it legally would be to replace the entire housing with an aftermarket designed for a different vehicle and fab a surround for the housing.
